Karla's Obituary for MED670

Karla Mancilla 103, passed away September 25, 2086. She was born July 15th, 1983 in Mexico City, Mexico, the first of two children born to Jesus and Mayela Mancilla. She grew up in the Southeast part of Mexico City, attended catholic school and converted to LDS religion a year before Graduating High School. Karla immigrated to Salt Lake City, Utah in 2003 to enroll at Brigham Young University and graduated with a degree in Marketing. Her brother Erik Mancilla immigrated 5 yrs later and her parents came to Salt Lake City 8 yrs later, the Mancilla family was established in the Salt Lake Valley. Karla married her eternal companion in the LDS Salt Lake Temple and later graduated with her Masters Degree in Education from Westminster College in Salt Lake City. Mother of 3 cherished children: Shakira, Jesse and Joy who are twins. She and her family enjoyed many travels, every winter they traveled to their beach house in Mexico, during the summer they traveled to different cities around the world. While at home they enjoyed many weekends camping, biking and snowboarding. She will be remembered for
serving in the LDS church as the Relief Society president for several years in her Spanish speaking ward. She also did a lot of work on and was an advocate for immigrant rights. She was instrumental in opening the “Escuela de la oportunidad” (School of opportunity) a program that helps immigrants learn English through placing them in jobs or allowing them to further their education and giving them to opportunity to excel at what they do.
She became the director of the program “On the job learning English program.” Then owned her own Investing company. Karla also worked as the Hispanic Marketing director for her husband’s company. Among the many programs she helped create and facilitate for the state and her home country were the “Motivacion para el exito” (Motivation for success), “Becas para los hispanos que quieren sobresalir” (Hispanic Scholarships for those that want to excel), “Latinos Unidos por una causa” (Latin people United for the cause) among others. Her family always enjoyed big Sunday dinners with numerous relatives gathered to tell stories and visit with each other. Karla enjoyed exercising, playing tennis, cycling, and ran 2 marathons. She enjoyed healthy eating and an active lifestyle so she opened a health center where she taught in her spare time, aerobics, cycling and weight training classes for women. She enjoyed many good times with her family going to church and cooking Mexican food for them. Her joy was her family and spending time with them was her favorite. She always wanted but never got to hike the Everest Mountain. The world will suffer her contribution in the areas of family life and English teaching. She will be mourned by her survived husband children, grandchildren, and brother because of her positive attitude and smile. From calls and contacts the family has received since her passing, a common theme has been, “She has touched my life for the good.” We love your family.
