Draft of Philosophy Paper

Karla Mancilla
Draft of Philosophy Paper

My vision for the world is for every individual to have access to a healthy environment which includes, pure drinking water, fresh foods, a safe place to sleep and opportunites to provide for themselves. My core values include that an education should be focused in teaching ourselves and create opportunities for others to learn about a world where peace, fairness, clean water, air, and good health for all surpasses the focus on profit.

My beliefs about the purpose of adult education, Education should also be accessible to everyone and adult educators are capable to help individuals overcome race, class, gender and obstacles that might hinder their learning in this world.

My beliefs about adults as learners, is that every individual should be able to think critically and make the right decision to empower themselves and their families to provide for themselves. My beliefs about what counts as knowledge and what should be taught in the curriculum. Still working on this one

Education Philosophy summary

After reading the various readings about the role that philosophy plays in the field of education it helped me understand the idea of how creating my own philosophy will help me. By creating my philosophy it will help me have a clear idea of how and why I am going to create an education philosophy that will help me shape my teaching and my vision as an educator.
By reading these articles i was able to discover the way I can incorporate the different philosophies and improve their application in my teaching

Rosemary's response to your obit and things you value

Karla, I was struck by the balance you had in your life of family, career, community service, spiritual life, and leisure (traveling, cooking or running or hanging out in the mountains). Even your career choices seemed to a wonderful balance to me – investment savvy coupled with the ability to help people learn to speak English, not mention helping women to become more fit! Could you provide more details about how your “On the Job Learning English Program” works or how it might be unique compared to other programs?

serving in the LDS church as the Relief Society president for several years in her Spanish speaking ward. She also did a lot of work on and was an advocate for immigrant rights. She was instrumental in opening the “Escuela de la oportunidad” (School of opportunity) a program that helps immigrants learn English through placing them in jobs or allowing them to further their education and giving them to opportunity to excel at what they do.
She became the director of the program “On the job learning English program.” Then owned her own Investing company. Karla also worked as the Hispanic Marketing director for her husband’s company. Among the many programs she helped create and facilitate for the state and her home country were the “Motivacion para el exito” (Motivation for success), “Becas para los hispanos que quieren sobresalir” (Hispanic Scholarships for those that want to excel), “Latinos Unidos por una causa” (Latin people United for the cause) among others. She enjoyed many good times with her family going to church and cooking Mexican food for them. Her joy was her family and spending time with them was her favorite. She always wanted but never got to hike the Everest Mountain. The world will suffer her contribution in the areas of family life and English teaching. She will be mourned by her survived husband children, grandchildren, and brother because of her positive attitude and smile. From calls and contacts the family has received since her passing, a common theme has been, “She has touched my life for the good.” We love your family. In lieu of flowers please send donations to the “On the job learning English Program.”

Karla's Core Beliefs and Values in Education

What I love most about the world is that there are blue skies and sunshines.
The world would be a better place if there were more educational opportunities readily for those than want to succeed. What I would like to maintain about the world through my work as an educator is that there is that educations opens doors to those that are willing to go through those doors. What I would like to change about the world through my work as an educator is that there is a lack of individual care for the students needs. I want my students to be motivated to make a change in their own life and their families.

This project was specifically done in the West Side of St. Paul, Minnesota. Here is the link to their website is you want to read more. http://westsidelearning.org/
